Fats Are Essential To Your Diet! Vitamin E Will You Tell You Why…

If you're prone to heart prob lems, then sit up and pay attention. You may not know this but vitamin E is extremely important for a variety of functions in your body. It has been known to help contain any existing heart disease, stop it from getting worse, as well as preventing heart diseases from even happening.

The vitamin E is also vital in protecting cell membranes from the harmful free radicals in the body. Without vitamin E, your cell membranes would be damaged and this could lead to serious health problems. The reason that vitamin E is so effective against free radicals is that it is fat soluble. This means that it can easily be absorbed into the cell membranes. In a nut shell, vitamin E is essential to a strong immune system.

The recommended daily amount of Vitamin E that you need depends on your body weight. The more fat a diet contains, the more Vitamin E is needed. However, the only foods that really contain any reasonable amount of Vitamin E are vegetable oils, seeds, wheat germ and nuts. So if you don't think you're not getting enough of these foods in your diet, turn to vitamin supplements. It's a perfectly reasonable solution and replacement.

A deficiency of the Vitamin E does not affect a person immediately. In fact, it can take months for the effects of insufficient Vitamin E to be detected. The symptoms of Vitamin E deficiency usually shows only after a few years. They usually include detectable damage to the nerves of the spinal cord or retina of the eye but this is very rare.

There are a few medical conditions that may lead to Vitamin E deficiency and may require the person to take Vitamin E supplements. They are:

  • Cystic Fibrosis – it affects the body's ability to digest fats and hence lead to the lack of absorption of necessary vitamins.
  • Crohn's Disease – it lowers absorption rates of Vitamin E. In this case, vitamin supplements become a necessity.
  • Liver Diseases - some forms of liver disease can also lead to problems in the absorption of Vitamin E, especially through the intestine.
  • Diets – fat is required to help absorb the sufficient amount of Vitamin E. If you're on a low fat diet, consult your doctor to ensure that you're getting enough Vitamin E. If you're not getting enough Vitamin E through food consumption, you might want to opt for vitamin supplements.
