Skipping breakfast - we've all been guilty of this at one time or another in our lives. Due to work commitments or time constraints, some of us may even choose to skip breakfast on a regular basis. “What's a little food” we think, because we'd rather use that extra time to sleep in a little more. What most of us don't realize is that by skipping breakfast and taking it out of our morning routines, we jeopardize our health (and even our looks)!

There are so many reasons to eat a good nutritional meal for breakfast. Eating breakfast can speed up your metabolism, which as most dieters will know, is critical to weight loss. Another problem with skipping breakfast is that it tends to make you overeat during lunch. Studies have shown that the vast majority of successful dieters do eat breakfast. This may seem counter-intuitive - the very idea of eating in order to lose weight. But the research shows that is the case. Having breakfast can also help you concentrate better at work. A number of studies have shown that having breakfast improves your focus. So whether you're headed for work or for school, you could probably use that concentration boost.

What you choose to eat for breakfast is also important. Depending on your body and diet, you might choose a high fiber meal (such as cereal) or a high protein meal (such as scrambled eggs and ham). The main thing to remember is that your breakfast should contain plenty of vitamins and minerals to help your body remain healthy throughout the day.

One thing you should avoid at breakfast is eating something high in sugar, such as a sugary breakfast cereal. While such a meal can lift your energy level temporarily, after a few hours, your energy level will drop again. While it is always better to eat something than nothing, you should be careful in the food choices you make.

Breakfast can enhance the body's efficiency, and thus making it easier for you to burn fat. This is true for both the young and old, so make sure your children eat breakfast as well. A good body is a healthy body that is more likely to become lean over time.

Having breakfast is a healthy habit that you should try. After all, the key to starting a healthy habit is persistence. To start off, just try having something small in the morning. A piece of bread with milk or a small bowl of cereal might not seem like much but it's a start.
